Day 33 July 29 Eagle Butte to Maurine SD 70 miles

By 7 am I was back  at the gas station again, I had a few cups of coffee cooked some oatmeal behind the building  and was ready to go.  First half of the day was kind of OK, wind from the side not too strong.

When I got Faith i stopped for lunch, after lunch the wind really pick up and for the rest of the day I was doing 5 to 8 miles on hr. It was super hot too.

Finally I had enough and  I was running out of water, I saw a guy doing something on his farm so I asked him for some water, he said come on in.

Liana and Rich said they don't get too many visitors mainly because there isn't too many people around, so they were glad to have me over.
Liana just milked her cows so she offered me a glass and then another one. They showed me some of their farm animals.

that's some pregnant cow

About 1 1/2 hr went by and we hear the dogs bark again, Liana went out side to  see what going on, when she came back she said there is another biker outside.
I thought she was kidding at first, but she was not. It was  Mathew from San Francisco, he  stopped to ask for directions, he saw the dogs but he also saw my bike so he waited.

We talked for a while he got a glass of milk too and we went to camp by the church about 3 mile back from where he came from. He left home April 1, 9500 miles so far and he will be on the road till end of November, some trip.

On the dirt road to church I saw my 1st rattle snake, it was only a meter long but very aggressive.
I was not going to mess around with him.
The picture is blurry because I'm shaking he he.

  1. These Dakotas look like the worst part of the trek. Hot, flat, and boring. Not to mention rattlesnakes:)
